Dr. Daniel Kay (aka Dr. Dan)

Dr. Dan is one of my all-time favs folks in the world of YouTube. He is an award-winning freelance artist and educator, predominantly teaching in his private studio (Djarts) and performing Australia wide. Daniel regularly presents for conferences as a Singing Voice Specialist, providing workshops and practical learning activities to contemporary vocalists across Australia and abroad. Apart from his very distinctive Australian accent, Dr. Dan offers a lot of very interesting content on his channel. His academic studies (and current involvement in research and associations dedicated to vocal pedagogy development) make him an extremely useful resource; his videos are very well put together, offer practical and visual explanations as well as exercises and tips. Topics range from how to perform vocal effects correctly, stylistic features and how to nail them, performance techniques, tongue tension, singing registers, voice care (DOs & DON’Ts) and a whole lot more.

Another very interesting factor that characterises Dr. Dan’s online presence is his ‘Live Q&A’ series. Aside from the many YT series dedicated to aforementioned topics, Dr. Dan brings a unique approach to these Q&A sessions when having guests (professionals performers, researchers, and teachers from across the globe) and discussing their work, their approach and their own experience within their area of expertise. These are invaluable videos, which you’ll see pop up here and there at some point when focusing on a specific topic, so I would recommend getting familiar with his stuff ASAP 🙂
