Hey readers, welcome back! This month I had something else planned to share with you all, however I decided to postpone it for the following month of October and catch the momentum on a topic that is, yes, music related, but not our ordinary (for lack of better term) talk. I truly love having this space as a hub of resources filled with thought-provoking and stimulating reads, news, videos etc to encourage you all to explore your creative processes or learning journeys even further. But since we all navigate the music industry in one way or another, I also wish to sometimes spread awareness in my own way and to my extent on topics that are linked to what we do or see. Britney Spears has been one of my favourite pop girls/women for more than a decade, and just like me I am sure that many of you can relate to this warm feeling. Unfortunately, as we all know by now, her story isn’t a happy one, or at least hasn’t been for a long time. The documentary ‘Britney vs Spears’ premiered on Netflix today and I was extremely glad I watched it. It contains a recollection and reconstruction of pivotal moments of Britney’s entire career: it is raw but real, contains information and insights that the public was never allowed to see or only suspected its existence. So I too recommend you watch it if you have a couple hours to spare, and not just to understand what happened to her for the past 13 years (give or take), but to also understand that it’s NEVER just about the music.
Many times I have come across artists that seek desperately that fame, notability, wealth and general lifestyle of what we nowadays call pop-stars. While there’s absolutely nothing wrong with ambition in itself or having a dream/goal to work towards, it is vital that one considers ALL aspects of a choice that will most definitely change one’s life. This documentary is obviously a very specific case and not reality for all or most pop-stars (thank God), yet it’s still something worth thinking about for a lot of reasons. To me, as someone that has been somewhat following the narratives across social media throughout the years, this documentary brought peace to my feelings of tension and answers to my questions. I am extremely happy to know that the situation is improving and Britney has regained control over her life now, slowly but surely working her way out of a terrible long nightmare. As a mother, singer, performer and most of all human-being I wish her the best of luck with everything in the future (hopefully new music, I’d love that so much!) and I wish you all a great start of this autumnal season!
