Hi everyone! I hope you are all well. I have received a few messages and emails lately about the struggles of keeping up with practice routines, tracking progress and following steps While we keep adapting to the new measures and social situations, I think it is absolutely normal for us to still feel somewhat lost and missing our ‘normal’ lives and schedules. Therefore, now more than ever, I believe that having a practice journal/diary will make things much easier. A practice journal will be a great way to know what you’re currently working towards, aims/goals in the long run, what exercises we have discussed together in our lessons and what was assigned to you in order to keep everything moving forwards.
Throughout the years I have seen many different formats and layouts when it comes to this sort of diaries, and to be honest, I love that! Whether you’re more old school and like writing with pen and paper, or feeling more tech-savvy by having everything on your electronic devices, the story is still the same. In my lessons I always stress out the importance of a practice journal because it does not just help you see things clearly and have them laid out in a very organised way, but it is also super helpful for me as a tutor when I check in with your practice and progress. I am beyond happy that most of you have been loving this suggestion of mine to keep one, so I decided to extend the invitation to everyone else, even if you are studying a discipline that is not Vocals.
As I said, I do not have any preference when it comes to format (digital/physical), however I have put together a digital template that is extremely easy to follow as well as to customise in terms of layout and make it more personal. To view/download, just follow the link at the bottom of this post. I really hope this simple tool can bring a new perspective to your routine and keep your practice focused, informed, relevant and positive. If you are struggling with finding (or remembering) your goals and aims, or specific exercises to get there or anything at all, please just check in with me via email and we’ll book an online session to catch up and see where you’re at.
